We are so excited to announce our new event in collaboration with FC Hyena:
KNITS AND NOTES GOES TO THE MOVIES
For this first edition, we’re screening ‘When Harry Met Sally…’ which not only features the best knits, but also an amazing soundtrack.
We will open the event with a short introductory lecture by Lucy Liang and Jan Julius Wintermans (both graduated film studies with honors!). The lecture will be an introduction to popular film theories, including the infamous “male gaze” and gender politics, and how this applies specifically to knitwear and romcoms. It will illustrate how cinema and knitwear go hand in hand in demonstrating the importance of the fading practice of handcrafting.
During the film we won’t dim the lights completely, so you will still be able to craft your heart out! Projects are definitely allowed inside the cinema.
Afterwards there will be room for a film discussion in the cafe.
In 1977, college graduates Harry Burns (Billy Crystal) and Sally Albright (Meg Ryan) share a contentious car ride from Chicago to New York, during which they argue about whether men and women can ever truly be strictly platonic friends. Ten years later, Harry and Sally meet again at a bookstore, and in the company of their respective best friends, Jess (Bruno Kirby) and Marie (Carrie Fisher), attempt to stay friends without sex becoming an issue between them.
